Registration for the 2020 Sjporr Challenge is Closed
2020 All Stars
The top 6 finalists from the 2019 competition will be the All Stars for the 2020 Sjporr Challenge. Round 1 will be a Bye Round for them. Again, this provides greater opportunity for other participants to advance to the second round and enjoy some fantastic beers!
2020 Brewing Guidelines
The 2020 SJPC theme is “3 Hops and an Adjunct”. You can may any style of beer, but with a few brewing constraints. The Sjporr Challenge is moving back to a “Spring” schedule. This shortens the time to come up with YOUR winning beer and will definitely be a test of both your recipe development and brewing skills!
Brewing Requirement #1:
Participants must use 3 hops of their choice. Bittering (60-90 min), flavor (15-20 minutes), aroma (5 minutes or less which includes boil OR whirlpool OR dry hop). Three different hops must be used for these 3 additions. You may use as many hop as you like at the end of the boil OR whirlpool OR dry hop.
Brewing Requirement #2:
Your beer must be between 30-80 IBU’s.
Brewing Requirement #3:
Participants must use 1 perishable and noticeable adjunct. Tossing in a small quantity of an adjunct that is not noticeable is not permitted. In addition, the adjunct must be a natural perishable item.
Acceptable Perishable Adjuncts: Fruit,vegetables, flaked oats, Belgian candi sugar, fresh vanilla beans, spices, honey, flaked coconut, cacao nibs, nuts, etc.
Unacceptable Non-Perishable Adjuncts: Alcohol, extracts, puree, oak or wood products, etc. Bacteria are not considered an adjunct for this competition.
